Granny Torrelli Makes Soup By
Sharon Creech
How could Baily my buddy, my pal.
my friend for life be so mean. These were the words that came out of a
twelve year-old girl named Rosie. Rosie is the main character in this
story. Her best friend, Baily, who is only one week younger than her is
blind. They've known each other since they were babies. Baily knows
how to read braille from going to a special blind school. Rosie learns to
read it and decides to read a book to him that is in Braille. He gets mad
and tells her that she is stuck up. So she leaves and slams the door
behind her. Now it is the next day and her parents go out on a Friday
night. This where Granny Torelli comes in. Granny Torrelli comes and
starts to make dinner or as she calls it Zuppa. Granny and Rosie start to
make a home-made soup. While the soup is cooking they start to talk about
Baily even though Rosie was reluctant at first. When the soup is done they
take some to Baily and his mom, Carmelita. Everyone on finishes their soup
and Rosie and Baily make up. So all is well or as Granny says, "Tutto va
bene." Soon a new girl (Janine) comes to live on the block. Baily spends
all his time with her now and not with Rosie. Saturday comes and Granny
comes to spend time with Rosie while her parents are out. Granny invites
Baily over and they make pasta for a party the next day. She asks what is
new and Baily says a wonderful new girl came. Granny saw Rosie was getting
Jealous and started telling them about a girl named Violeta. She tried to
take her best friend Pardo, but a new boy moved onto the block and she
forgot all about him. The next day a new family came with two boys, and
just like the story she forgot all about Baily. So they had the party with
the neighbors too. At the end Granny had one last thing to say "Tutto va
bene.". I recommend this book to anyone who likes good drama, How about
you?
