Q:
Is there a charge to use the Computer
Training Center?
A: No! Computer use is
free during normal CTC Hours, except for
printing or class charges.
Q:
Are we able to print in the CTC?
A: Yes. Printing charges
are 15 cents per page and must be paid
for before leaving the CTC. Printing is
to be picked up with the CTC Operator.
Any unpaid printing will be placed on
your library card.
Q:
Who is able to use the CTC?
A: The Training Center is
to be used during posted hours for any
work that cannot be at the Public
Computers in the Reference Area. No
General Internet Surfing is allowed in
the CTC unless the Reference Area
Computers are full or if assisted by the
Reference Librarian.
Q:
How do you sign into the Training
Center?
A: To sign in, you must
print and sign your first and last names
legibly on the sign in sheet along with
the time. You must also indicate the
computer number you wish to work on, the
software you will be using, and your
library card number. The CTC Operator
must sign his or her name in order to
complete the sign in process. Remember
that you must sign out when you are
leaving the CTC.
Q:
Are children allowed to use the Training
Center?
A: No. Children are
directed to use the Kids Computers in
the Childrens area.
Q:
Is there a complete list of procedures

A: Yes. Please refer to

Policy for more detailed information.
Disks
& Saving:
Q:
How can I save my work in the CTC?
A: In the CTC, you have
two options: 1) Bring or purchase your
own Windows formatted 3.5" floppy
disk, or 2) Save temporarily to our
shared network drive, known as
"F." Note that this is a
shared drive and any data may be viewed
by others and is deleted regularly.
Q:
Can I bring in my own disks?
A: Yes, the Training
Center supports any 3.5" Windows
formatted diskette. Note that all disks
are automatically scanned by the
computer for viruses on access for
security purposes.
Q:
Can I save data to the hard disk?
A: You are unable to save
any information to the hard disks. You
may, however, save to a temporary
network drive, known as "F."
Note that this is a shared drive and any
data may be viewed by others and is
deleted regularly.
Q:
What if I do not have my own disk and I
want to save my data?
A: You may purchase your
own floppy disk at the Circulation Disk
for $1.00 each. Otherwise, you may save
to a temporary network drive, known as
"F." Note that this is a
shared drive and any data may be viewed
by others and is deleted regularly.
Q:
How often is the network drive
("F") cleaned out?
A: The library regularly
cleans out the shared network drive once
a week. Because there is no set time
that this occurs, any important data
should be saved onto a floppy disk to
insure that you will have your data
later.
Printing:
Q:
How do I print?
A: Most of the time,
printing is as easy as clicking the
print button on the toolbar or using the
File/Print menu combination. It is often
a two step process click the print
button and then the OK button on the
next screen.
Q:
How do I know how many pages I am
printing?
A: Most programs offer a
Print Preview option that lets you view
your pages before printing. When
printing, you can then select which page
numbers you wish to print. Remember that
you must pay for all pages, including
mistakes.
Q:
I am from the Workforce NJ Program, do I
have to pay for printing?
A: You are able to print
anything workforce related for free. (ie.
Job listings, resumes, etc.) However,
any non-related printing retains the
normal charge of 15 cents per page.
Software:
Q:
What software programs are available in
the Training Center?
A: In the CTC, we have
Netscape Navigator available for
Internet browsing along with Microsoft
Office 97 Professional for business
applications. A number of other desktop
publishing and researching software is
available. For a
complete

Q:
Is word processing available in the CTC?
A: Yes. Microsoft Word
97 is available for your use.
Q:
Do you have any games.
A: No.
Q:
Can I bring in my own software to use on
the Training Center Computers?
A: Under no circumstances
may you load or run any of your own
software on the computers. Attempting to
do so will result in a loss of computer
privileges (at the minimum).
Q:
The does CTC have the capability of
editing photographs?
A: Yes. Paint Shop Pro 5
and Animation Shop 1 is available for
use. Also a color flatbed and slide
scanner will available for scanning
photographs.
Internet:
Q:
How do I access the Internet?
A: Youre already
connected! You must only double-click on
the Netscape Navigator icon on the
desktop.
Q:
Can I do e-mail?
A: The Library does not
provide e-mail accounts or software.
Web-based accounts may be used, if
necessary.
Q:
Can I chat?
A: You are not allowed to
chat in the CTC. This falls under
General Internet Surfing and is
prohibited. Library resources are not
provided for informal chat.
Q:
What Job-Searching Resources are
available on the web?
A: A list of job related
sites are available in the Bookmarks
toolbar in Netscape Navigator.
Additional resources are available by
talking with the CTC Operator.
Assistance
& Training:
Q:
Is any staff help available?
A: The CTC Operator is
available for general computer questions
and will answer them as time and
knowledge permit. Note that the CTC
Operator will not complete any work for
the user.
Q:
Is personal tutoring available?
A: No, however
Self-Tutoring software is available for
certain applications. Please ask the CTC
Operator for more information.
Q:
What classes are available in the
Training Center?
A: Various classes ranging
from introductory to more advanced
applications are available. Please refer
to the CTC Class
Schedule
to see what classes are available this
month. Descriptions
of classes are also available. Please
talk to the CTC Operator for more
information.
Q:
Are these classes accredited or are
certificates issued?
A: No. Classes offered at
the Training Center are for personal
development purposes only.
